On 17.03.2025, the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic approved the proposal by SAIA, n. o., for amending the terms and conditions for awarding scholarships under the National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic. In addition to minor technical adjustments and clarifications (without expecting a significant impact on the selection process itself), the approval of the new conditions also implements two major substantive changes:

  1. The first change concerns exclusively foreign applicants for the scholarship. As a result of this change, foreign applicants are required to ensure the delivery of the original acceptance/invitation letter (the one whose scanned copy the applicant uploads as an attachment to the online scholarship application) to the SAIA, n. o. headquarters no later than 3 days after the deadline for submitting scholarship applications (it is explicitly emphasized that the delivery to SAIA is required; meaning it is not enough for this document to be sent by the deadline, but it will be considered delivered only upon receipt by SAIA); can be read here;
  2. The second change impacts the whole programme as it specifies more in detail the authorisation of the programme administrator to take action or to make decisions within selection procedure and within administration of scholarship stays (i.e., some further specific areas and actions that the administrator can carry out if necessary are listed more explicitly, with the aim to provide better predictability from the applicant's point of view of the possible impact of the administrator's activities on his/her application); can be read here.

The change in terms and conditions applies to scholarship applications submitted by the application deadline of April 30, 2025 (the expected date for opening the application system is 18.03.2025). Scholarships awarded under the terms and conditions in force before the application deadline of April 30, 2025 are governed by the terms and conditions that were in effect at the time of the scholarship approval.
